The LTC3255 has many key features and benefits such as a 4V to 48V input range which makes it ideal for automotive and general purpose applications. Its Buck topology provides efficient step-down conversion, up to 81% efficiency from 12 VIN to 5 VOUT. The 16µA quiescent current saves battery run time in systems that are always on. Multimode operation (2:1, 1:1) with automatic mode switching optimizes efficiency based on VIN and load current operating points. The 500kHz switching frequency minimizes switching noise and avoids interference bands. Positive transient (60V) and reverse input (-52V) protection are featured for robustness. A no-inductor design minimizes footprint/externals, reducing end product cost. Only three external components are required which minimizes BOM and reduces cost.
