to remember idt tech support

Remember, there are several definitions of jitter, each related to a particular measurement method. Comparing two jitter values corresponding to two different definitions, such as period and cycle-to-cycle jitter, is like comparing apples to oranges. Also remember that random jitter is unbounded. Mathematically, if users keep measuring for an infinite amount of time they will find infinite peak-to-peak jitter. Because this is not practical for engineering purposes, the JEDEC standards specify how jitter shall be measured: period jitter is measured over 10000 cycles and cycle-to-cycle jitter is measured over 1000 cycles. Because many jitter definitions exist and requirement specs may vary from one application to the next, not every possible jitter data is given in clock device datasheets. Also keep in mind that the jitter performance of configurable clock generators can vary depending on the configuration. Renesas recommends to have the clock generator’s performance measured using its intended configuration. This is a no-cost service to Renesas' customers.
