In most cases, chipset vendors will specify a jitter value. There are many definitions of jitter. The most common are period jitter and cycle-to-cycle jitter. Compliance is checked by comparing the jitter value of the clock generator to the requirement spec. In this example, period jitter of the 5P35023 is 70 picoseconds. A maximum value of 100 picoseconds is allowed for the LS1043A. The 5P35023 can be used to clock the LS1043A.
