ST is also participating in millimeter wave technology, including areas such as WiGig, using processes such as the new 28FDSOI technology, or applications such as V-Band and E-Band for backhaul. A big increase is being seen in microwave point-to-point backhaul, and in millimeter wave for point-to-point backhaul due to base stations popping up in more remote areas where customers want high data throughput. In order to support that, it must be possible to get high-speed data to the base stations. The best way to do that, if they are very remote, is with microwave or millimeter wave links. ST is developing products for WiGig, products for E-Band and V-Band, and more integrated products such as transceivers, plus integrated ADCs and DACs that can support these.
