There are several thermocouple types, which are designated by letters, with K type the most commonly used. As this chart illustrates, the different thermocouple types vary in the types of alloys used in the junction. Each features different temperature ranges and measurement sensitivity, giving designers the flexibility to choose the thermocouple that best fits the application.
