Maximum powerline voltage of 12 V centralized load dump suppressed powertrain is 35 V as US* which is fixed by the ISO 16750-2 pulse B specification. The central load dump circuit is located in the alternator near the engine, and peak load dump voltage is stable due to stable temperature. However, electronic controllers are located outside of the engine and ambient temperature is varied by climate condition. As the table shows for part number 5KASMC24A, breakdown voltage and clamping voltage of a conventional TVS have a large difference of 5.8 V, which would cause failure in cold weather.
