Equipment and panels are increasingly becoming more intelligent, further cementing the need for data access ports. Typical installation applications include any panels and equipment that include Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) or industrial networks. Additionally, as more and more of this intelligence is designed into equipment, the personnel required to service this intelligence expands beyond the standard qualified electrician role and into roles inhabited by machine operators, IT personnel, and others. However, whether it’s a qualified or unqualified electrical worker, opening an energized electrical enclosure poses the same serious safety risks, so data access ports would be applicable in any of these environments. Finally, any equipment serviced by third-party technicians or contractors are ideal applications for data access ports.
