Panasonic PhotoMOS relays are optically isolated MOSFET devices employing a solid state design. An LED on the input side transmits light to a photocell that charges a MOSFET gate on the output side. When the MOSFET gate voltage reaches a preset value, two source-coupled MOSFETs begin to conduct and turn on the AC/DC load. PhotoMOS relays offer a variety of features in addition to a maximum 5,000 V optical isolation provided between input and output. High reliability and long life with a semiconductor design, stable on-resistance, fast switching speed, low offstate leakage current, high vibration and shock resistance, no arcing, no contact bounce and no noise are just a few examples. PhotoMOS relays are available in a variety of configurations designed with space saving profiles. Other options to reduce board space usage include multiple contact configurations up to 4 channels, as well as a built-in input resistor for voltage driven applications.
