The MGJ3 and MGJ6 series respectively deliver the full-rated 3 W and 6 W of power over the wide industrial temperature range of -40°C to +105°C, making them suitable for the harshest industrial equipment environments. Another feature of the MGJ3 and MGJ6 series is the synchronization pin. By synchronizing the converter operation with that of the IGBT switching, low frequency beats on the input are averted which consequently simplifies EMI filter design. If not driven with an external clock, this pin can also be used to disable the converter. In addition to the more standard features of low power isolated converters, those intended for use in IGBT driver applications should be characterized for immunity to the high voltage noise present in the higher voltage applications where IGBTs are employed. Murata’s MGJ series are being tested and verified to ensure their immunity to such transients. Also, IGBT driver supplies should be characterized for partial discharge performance. Such characterization of the insulation ensures that the device will provide reliable performance for its useful life. Lastly, these devices incorporate short circuit and overload protection, as well as RoHS compliance.
