Elle est conçue pour protéger les composants sensibles contre les conditions de surintensité et de surchauffe qui peuvent se produire en raison de surtensions, de transitoires électriques, de températures ambiantes élevées, etc. Les fusibles CTP réarmables d'Eaton garantissent un temps de fonctionnement constant dans les applications où l'utilisation de fusibles non rechargeables serait peu pratique ou coûteuse, comme les dispositifs alimentés par batterie, les contrôleurs industriels, les dispositifs médicaux et les ports d'E/S des dispositifs électroniques grand public.
