Higher voltage applications such as 24V industrial rails are associated with noisy electrical environments that experience much higher transients in current and voltage. This requires movement away from capacitors that only handle mA or mV levels of ripple, to a capacitor that is rated for ampere and volt levels of ripple. Polymer capacitors are an ideal solution for these applications, given their low ESR for handling much higher ripple current. Additionally the robust dielectric can handle higher ripple voltage. For high current applications that seek the highest efficiency levels possible, ESR options of 30 mΩ are available within the Polymer Tantalum product line, in package heights of 4.3mm and lower.
