Most designers have become familiar with the advantages that polymer capacitors have brought to the industry. This polymer technology has been applied to both aluminum and tantalum dielectrics for V Chip (vertical chip) and H Chip (horizontal chip) styles of capacitors. During the last ten years, each of these platforms has been able to further extend the reach of the voltage rating. These breakthroughs have opened up a number of options for designers working with higher voltage applications such as 24V and 48V input rails. In this training module, KEMET will focus on the Polymer Tantalum H Chip style capacitor.
