The inductor works in conjunction with capacitors and resistors to form a resonant circuit of a certain frequency, dependent on their values. A low impedance frequency range is created which allows the AC signals to pass with low loss while other frequencies are, in essence, blocked due to the high impedance values created by the circuit.
