Another example where Analog Devices power modules can be used is in a remote optical sensor. In this application, the MAXM17532 is used to provide either 3.3V or 5V to power the analog blocks and a microcontroller from the 24VBUS. Since this bus can vary up to 36V and can have unpredictable voltage transients, a 42V input voltage range minimized the protection circuitry needed for the system. In addition, the system needs to be very efficient in reducing the voltage drop from the main supply, which it can up to a kilometer from the sensor.
