The high runners of dielectric for film are PET, PEN and PPS. The PET has the highest dielectric constant in film technology, if a designer is looking for miniaturization this is the most appropriate technology. PET offers small packaging and higher capacitance and has excellent self healing properties. The main characteristics of the PEN dielectric is that they have high temperature capability used in DC applications which is similar to the X7R ceramic. Finally, the PPS dielectric is a very unique technology that can handle a large current and high stability in temperature. It is used in DC applications similar to the C0G MLCC. Due to the fact that PPS has a wide operating temperature it is typically used under the hood for automotive applications.
