The key advantage of using stepper motors is that they have no brushes or contacts inside the stepper motor, so they are very reliable and low cost. Also, the motors operate with open-loop control, which keeps the system design simple and low cost, as no feedback information about the position is needed. Further, the programmable step rate to control precise position and repeatability of movement within ±2% accuracy is desirable in most motor control applications.
