Shown on this slide is a simplified basic battery charger circuit diagram. The first stage is the input where a filter capacitor is used. In this location, EPCOS offers X2 and Y2 EMI capacitors. The second stage where a capacitor is used is at the DC Link position. For this application, EPCOS offers polypropylene, MKP DC Link, or aluminum electrolytic snap-in capacitors. The final capacitor location in this battery charger circuit is the output filter. In this application, there are multiple options, either EMI capacitors – the same as from the input filter stage, MKP AC filter capacitors without any UL certification, or the standard polyester or MKT series. These choices will be discussed further in the following slides.
