In the next part of the switching cycle, Q1 turns off and Q2 turns on. Again, the direction of current flow in this configuration is shown here as red arrows. During the time when Q2 is on, the inductor current decreases and is initially still supplying current to the output load and capacitor. Once the inductor’s energy decreases enough, the output capacitor takes over, using up its stored energy, and supplies current to the load. When this part of the cycle ends, the beginning of the next cycle starts with Q2 turning off and Q1 turning on.
