Analog Devices' MAX49921 0 V to 70 V, high-precision CSA monitors inductive loads like DC motors and solenoids
Analog Devices' MAX49921 is a high-precision, unidirectional CSA with an operating input common-mode range from 0 V to +70V. The device is protected against input common-mode voltages down to -42 V and up to +80 V, thus protecting against reverse-battery and high-voltage spikes. The MAX49921 is well-suited for current monitoring of inductive loads, such as DC motors and solenoids, where common-mode voltages can become negative due to inductive kickback, reverse-battery conditions, or transient events.
The low input offset of ±0.5 μV (typ) and low gain error of ±0.05% (typ) make this device best suited for high-precision current measurements.
The MAX49921 operates from a supply voltage of +2.7 V to +5.5 V with a typical quiescent supply at 0.7 mA. This device is specified over the full -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range and is AEC-Q100 qualified. The MAX49921 is offered in a 2 mm x 3 mm, 8-pin, side-wettable TDFN package with gain options of 20 V/V and 50 V/V.
The MAX49921EVKIT# evaluation kit (EV kit) provides a proven design to evaluate the MAX49921 high-precision, high voltage, unidirectional current-sense amplifier. This EV kit demonstrates the MAX49921 in a small, 2 mm x 3 mm 8-pin TDFN package.
The EV kit PCB comes with a MAX49921FATA/VY+ installed, which is the 50 V/V gain version. The other gain option available is the pin-compatible MAX49921TATA/ VY+ (G = 20 V/V). Contact the factory for MAX49921TATA/ VY+ availability.
