Heat Sinks

LEDs can use many different types of heat sinks. The application determines the required thermal resistance value, mounting type, and heat sink shape. Digi-Key offers a wide selection of general purpose heat sinks to provide engineers flexibility and to allow them to optimize their product.

Bergquist - Thermal Tape

Bergquist - Thermal Tape Bergquist thermally conductive, fiberglass reinforced pressure sensitive adhesive tape offers a thermal impedance of 0.86°C/W (@100 psi) with a high bond strength to a variety of surfaces. This tape can be used to replace heat-cure adhesive, screw mounting, or clip mounting.

MCPCB

The Metal Core Printed Circuit Boards (MCPCB) listed here are currently in stock. These boards utilize a base metal as a heat spreader as an integral part of the circuit board. Additionally, the MCPCB also takes advantage of incorporating a dielectric polymer layer with a high thermal conductivity for low thermal resistance. 


Bergquist - MCPCB

Bergquist - MCPCB The Bergquist MCPCB family of standard thermally conductive insulated metal substrate (IMS) circuit boards are specifically designed for LED applications replacing conventional FR-4 PCBs. Better thermal management allows more forward current to be applied to the LED, while still maintaining desired die temperatures, which means more light and the possibility to reduce the number of LEDs required to achieve the desired light output. With proper thermal management, power LED lifetimes can be extended considerably. These boards are available for LEDs from a variety of manufacturers including Avago, Lite-On, Lumex, Osram, and Cree.
